Elena Gilbert is the well-known doppelganger in Mystic Falls. As far as everybody knows, she's the only living human doppelganger. But she has a secret, a twin sister, Emily Gilbert.

Eager to make Emily safe and out of trouble, she and everybody who knows about the supernaturals agreed to conceal her identity. Of course, that means leaving Emily herself in the dark.
