Prologue

"I don't think this is worth anything."
"Then it's worth everything."
"Why is that, Celeste?"
"Because your opinion is worth everything to me, Avion."
"I'm glad you say that, because with this ring I'm going to ask Rain to marry me."

That conversation destroyed me. At nineteen, neither me nor my best friend Avion had any idea what love meant. But I wanted to pretend I did. And after she told me she was going to run off and marry someone else one day after college, I didn't have to pretend that I knew what a broken heart felt like.
