Laurie has lost both her parents and is struggling to keep her and her little sister alive. When shes out on her daily scavenger hunt for food, she sees Quinn, a boy of her own age, injured and hungry. She doesn't like him at all - she doesn't need another mouth to feed - but her little sister begs her, cries, even, so that she has to let Quinn stay with them. Laurie is sure she will always hate Quinn - but when a problem occurs and he steps in to help, she finds herself in an odd position. Is there place for love in this wreckage of a planet?
