Description
Amelia's first memory she is able to claim as entirely her own takes place standing upon a serrated steel floor in spine-chilling darkness, the sound of grinding metal rising unsteadily upwards sharp in her ears. She is stripped of any recollection of her past except for two things: her name and the face of a boy named Thomas, so familiar to her despite her inability to call to mind any trace of a connection between them. As the lurching motion comes to a halt, accompanied by the noise, and she is introduced to blinding light that floods the metal container around her from above, she is surrounded by a sea of faces, all of them belonging to boys. Thus begins her new life as the only girl in the Glade, a fairly large stretch of grassy land enveloped by four massive stone walls that are each gateways to a complex, constantly changing, and unforgiving maze. Within the corridors are horrors beyond conception, ones she can't stomach to ponder upon for long. These horrors become all too real for her, the incentive to find a way out of the Maze all the more dire, as she shows signs of pregnancy that only become more pronounced as time goes on. All the while, she clings to the manifestation of Thomas that appears in her dreams every night without fail, his voice pleading for her to trust him, until, on the brink of losing faith and precious time before the inevitable birth of her child, he arrives and reveals a heavy truth that rekindles their relationship from scratch. Unbeknown to the two teenagers, Thomas could be the remedy to the utter ruin the world beyond the Maze is in and, from this, Amelia a vessel for the salvation of mankind. - [All rights go to James Dashner for all of the characters excluding Amelia in this fanfiction, most of the plot, and the world in which it all takes place.
