Crystal was living a regular life in Japan with her parents, captured and almost killed along with her teacher that is also captured. The x-men get a call saying that mutants are going missing, so when they go save her she developed a crush on Scott. When Scott realizes he plans to use her just for his grief, so he trains her and sleeps with her, but what the X-men don't know that she is the daughter of the Phoenix the same on that killed Jean gray
