Sure, her partner, which happens to be a spider, is the only thing that she can call family, and yes, her body does carry poison, but it's not like she knows anything about her clan in the first place. Without memory of who she was before the Hidden Leaf, Kathena is determined to find her village, her mother, and more importantly - herself. With the aid of the voice in her head that leads to something bigger and her talking companion, she might be able to accomplish her goals, but nothing is ever easy, and life sure as hell ain't fair.
