Book of Thain Chapter 1 Genesis

Thain Mors has spent his life learning how to survive.

Raised by an abusive father and abandoned by a mother who vanished without explanation, the one person Thain has always been able to rely on is his younger brother, Azariah. So when Azariah returns from war dying of a mysterious illness, Thain is willing to do anything to save him.

Even steal from the most dangerous man in Ashbrook.

The treatment works.

Thain does not live long enough to see it.

Murdered for his betrayal, Thain awakens far beneath the world of the living, trapped in the ashen wastelands of Sheol. There, starving souls wander toward a paradise they may never reach, ancient horrors wait beyond the darkness, and the Angel of Death offers Thain something no dead man should ever be given:

A second life.

But resurrection has a price.

Meanwhile, miles away in Hollencrown, journalist Sara begins investigating a string of impossible murders sweeping through Grimhaven's criminal underworld. Witnesses whisper about a ghost called the Executioner, a dead man hunting the wicked one by one.

And when a locket belonging to the man she once loved appears beneath her door, Sara begins to wonder whether the dead have truly stayed buried.

Thain wanted another chance at life.

What returned may belong to Death instead.
