Description
What happens when childhood is supposed to feel like freedom, but home feels like a place where you have to survive? Childhood Ecstasy is a raw, intimate journey through growing up, family, fear, love, loneliness, laughter, pain, and the strange little moments that stay with you long after childhood is over. From the outside, it may have looked like an ordinary childhood. Inside the house, however, there were rules to follow, punishments to fear, expectations to meet, parents to fear and little freedoms that sometimes had to be gained by breaking the rules. There were also guavas. There were whispered conversations between siblings, ridiculous childhood moments, school memories, friendships, embarrassing experiences, moments of rebellion, and the kind of laughter that somehow finds its way into even the hardest memories. This is not a story about a perfect childhood. It is about a child trying to understand the world around her while growing up far too quickly. Some memories hurt. Some make you laugh. Some make you wonder how you even survived them. And some remind you that even in the middle of all the chaos, you were still just a child. This is my attempt to remember it all. Welcome to Childhood Ecstasy.
