The maze is never kind to anyone, Obie knows this, he sees it in how Gladers become bruised and broken. How some die and his hands cannot do anything to save them. This place has a way at eating at you until there's nothing left but chewed bones. He tries to make the best of it but sometimes the only thing helping you hold it together is the people around you
