With the 70th Hunger Games fast approaching, Maxine Gentile is less than thrilled. Her mother dead, her father depressed and isolated, and her brother working with the cattle most of his time, the young girl is all alone.

Except for her only friend, Bax. The two are inseparable and love each other.

Then she meets Asher Vern. After that, everything changes.
