He always told me he'd be there for me, to protect me, to care for me, to love me, and to make me happy, like best friends should. He was never afraid of being seen with me, even when his friends didn't like me. He was the type of guy to make sure everyone knew I was his one and only best friend, and that would never change. He also made it very clear to everyone we knew that he'd choose me over anyone else, any day, without regrets. Slowly but surely the affection I had towards him became love. I fell in love with him, but I knew he didn't feel the same way. If anything, he probably saw me as his little sister or something along those lines, so I just felt pathetic. I never told him, though. Never planned on it, really. He left home after we graduated high school, we stopped talking once he did. Never heard from him again. Well, until four years later that is, when he came back for a visit. And I don't think I was ready for that, but at that point, it's not like I had a choice.
