Quick and/or extreme changes in temperatures, fire behavior and the fire environment place firefighters in harm's way. As well,, the conditions such as working in small confined space or in tall buildings complicate the rescue operations. To this end, emotional concern including loss of dear ones and destruction of property is another concern that concerns firefighters. This is why mental resilience and emotional preparedness are components of training within NIFS training programs.
