Description
Madeline Callahan lives on a cattle and horse ranch in Washington, Oklahoma, with 400 beef cattle and 60 horses. But guilt roams around Callahan Ranch when Madeline's older brother dies in a horrible forest fire he was trying to contain on horseback to save the ranch. The ranch was never the same after Carson's death, and 18 year old Madeline never experienced such a loss. And her 22 year old sister, Olivia, lives in Wyoming and isn't able to make it to the funeral. But one change in path can switch the way she feels about life. So when her enemy, Sawyer Ashcroft, gets a job as a stable hand at the ranch to annoy her, Madeline is forced to tolerate him. But when she's herding 100 cattle in the east field and gets help from a stray black lab named Hugo, her life changes forever. Holding onto her feelings seemed to never get her anywhere. So hugging and crying into the loving labs furr made a difference in Madeline's perspective of loss. But happiness seems to always disintegrate in Madeline's life. When a threat comes to Callahan Ranch, Madeline is forced to fight for her family, with only Sawyer, Hugo, and a gun by her side.
