Inspired by the world created by Iain Softley and Ehren Kruger Hazel, a 22-year-old nurse with a secret-she is also a witch-arrives in New Orleans, desperate to leave behind the shadows of her troubled past in New York. Seeking a fresh start, Hazel takes a live-in job at a crumbling, moss-draped mansion on the outskirts of the city, tasked with caring for two elderly residents: Ben and Violet. But the mansion is more than just a relic of Southern Gothic grandeur. Its walls hum with old magic, and its halls echo with secrets. Hazel soon senses that something is off about her employers. Beneath Ben and Violet's frail exteriors, the souls of Caroline and Luke-victims of the soul-swapping rituals from years past-are trapped, desperate for release. Once ensnared by the dark magic of Papa Justify and Mama Cecile, Caroline and Luke narrowly escaped eternal imprisonment, but at a terrible cost: their bodies were stolen, and their identities erased. Now, with Hazel's arrival, hope flickers anew. Her hidden powers may be the key to reversing the ancient ritual and restoring them to their rightful bodies. But New Orleans is a city where the past never dies, and the spirits of Papa Justify and Mama Cecile are not finished yet. As Hazel is drawn deeper into the mansion's mysteries, she must confront her own magical heritage-and decide whether to risk everything to help Caroline and Luke, or become the next victim of the Skeleton Key.
