All the foster homes she moved out of
The people that slammed the door in her face
The number of cold nights she spent alone in the darkness
The individual tears she cried while she shed blood on the gravel.
Every time one of these things happened, she would keep a mental tally. A number. A fallen shred of hope.
When she hit 100, she completely gave up. She didn't think she could live to 101 and neither did he. That's why, when she finally cried her last tear, he give her his hand.
