There are multiple worlds across the universe parallel to one another. Worlds like yours where your soul lives inside your body invisible to the naked eye, then are worlds like Andromedas where the soul lives outside the body in an animal form called a Daemon. Forced from her world by a strange blue light Andromeda and her Daemon Atlas spend months in captivity by strange daemon-less people until she is rescued by a striped wearing man.
