Marinette temporarily takes on the Ladybug Miraculous during her summer break when its previous holder retires and a new one is being tested. She is disgusted and furious with Chat Noir's behavior. Marinette's family is one. The families each raise and train their children to use the Ladybug Miraculous. There are a number of tests that must be passed before someone can use it. Marinette has already passed the tests. She is temporarily using the Miraculous since she has the time since it is her summer break and she is the best candidate. The Akuma attacks started two months before the new school year. For Marinette that year is when she started college. Marinette graduate two years early from high school. She is studying abroad in the United States because her parents want her safe from the Akuma attacks. She never met Adrien, since Adrien joined the class after she graduated. She never developed the crush. She does crush on a boy in her class, but it isn't as intense as Adrien.
