Meeting the Mother

Shortly after the events of the movie, Aladdin discovers Jasmine's mother is not actually dead - she just never comes out of the harem quarters, and strongly disapproves of her daughter living her life so differently. Inspired by the character of Jasmine's Mother I created for my "Aladdin: the Arabian Nights" story; I just had to write more of her! The one line we get about Jasmine's mother in the movie: "(she) wasn't nearly so picky (as Jasmine)" always suggested to me that Jasmine and her mother never really saw eye to eye - that and the way Jasmine never seems to long for her mother's guidance at any point, and her general feeling of not having anyone around she can connect to. I wanted to explore, based on all those clues, my ideas of what Jasmine and her mother's dynamic might have been like. I always figured, we can safely guess they weren't alike at all - or else the Sultan would have been prepared to handle Jasmine!
