All the pieces of me shattered as the crowd was chanting more. I was grinning like I'm winning, I was hitting my marks" ....... "Cause I can do it with a broken heart" ........ "I'm so depressed I act like it's my birthday....everyday. I cry a lot but I am so productive, it's an art" ........ "Cause I'm miserable. And no one even knows..." All of these things are descriptions of Maxine's life, all not good. But then she meets her new apartment neighbor/school friend, Peter Parker, and it seems like she finally feels happy. But she has a deep, deep secret, that she has told no one. Ever since the 'accident' she has been angry, depressed, and reckless. So will she ever be able to tell Peter, and if he does know about it, will he feel the same way about her? She thinks the answer is no, and that is what she fears.
