Everyone felt as if the world had ended in a way when COVID hit in 2020, and this is especially true for Rena Davis, a lonely and disillusioned fourteen-year-old girl who is spending the summer with her grandfather in Flicksville, Illinois. Coping with all of the change that is happening around her, "The Flicksville Scene" follows Rena's strange thoughts and intense feelings as she spends her summer learning about the beloved indie rock scene that took place twenty years prior. Instead of researching about the Scene via the internet, her grandfather, Henry Davis, the man who runs the famous Underground Lounge, gives her the contacts or locations of eight retired musicians who were considered the best and influential players in the Scene, also known as the Eight Forerunners. With these contacts, she is able to learn about the Scene from people with first-hand experience, listen to their personal stories, and uncover shocking truths better left hidden. What will Rena learn about during her research of the Flicksville Scene? Is the Flicksville Scene a shallow puddle not worth researching about, or is there more that lies beneath the surface?
