Prologue

Elyse doesn't want to face her past. All she wants is to reach the Isthmus of the Sky. But when her trusty airship crashes and her crew of three become stranded, Elyse's life takes a drastic turn.

Ben is stuck in an assassin's lifestyle. For decades, the poverty-stricken town of Culmes has been controlled by the Red Rose--a mercenary construct run by the one and only Rose. Now, she has Ben right where she needs him when she sends him off on one last job.

Elyse and Ben's stories, whether they know it or not, are essential to each other. They must fly across the nation in order to both get away from their pasts and discover their futures. It is up to them to reach the Isthmus of the Sky.
