Chapter 1: The Smiling Man

Hailey woke up to a scratching sound in her bedroom. She sat up and turned her lamp on, squinting her eyes and rubbing them. She lets out a yawn and looks around the room. "Hello?" She whispers. "Joyce?" The scratching continues. Hailey uncovers herself and steps out of bed, with her legs still tired she grabs onto her stand to balance herself. She walks slowly towards the closet, where the noise is coming from. "Hello?" She speaks in a normal tone. She slowly opens her closet doors, with her heart racing.
Within a blink of an eye, something darts out of the closet.
