"Seven years is a long time to be waiting on a man." I took a long swig of my cigarette, the bitter taste mingling with the bitterness in my heart. Glancing at my best friend, I saw understanding mirrored in her eyes as she nursed her drink. "Especially when you know that love is unrequited." I sighed, the weight of realization settling heavily on my shoulders. From the moment I allowed myself to see him as more than just my boss seven years ago, I knew I was doomed. I knew he would never cross that line with me, especially when he was way out of my league. My friend let out an uncharacteristic laugh, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she turned to me. "So what? You're just going to give up because he has his eyes on someone else?" She knew me too well, always pushing me to challenge the boundaries I've built around myself. But even my endurance had its limits, and I feared I had reached mine.
