The bad beginning

Charlotte Baudelaire's parents are dead. Her thirteen year old mind knows something is wrong, but what can she do? Her elder sister Violet is incredible at making machines, while her younger brother Klaus absorbs knowledge like a sponge, and her very little sister Sunny has four rather sharp teeth. The thing that sticks out about her is being able to read situations well and piece things together.
