Stefan originally went back to Mystic Falls for Elena Gilbert, Kathrine Pierce's doppelgänger, however, that all changed on the night of the fatal Wickerby Bridge accident. Stefan, instead, saved Natalie Gilbert, the older, sexier twin and he instantly fell for her. Stefan had never met anyone like her before but he wasn't going to let her go...she's his for eternity.
