Prologue

Trolls do not care to kidnap human children.
Now, that is not quite the whole truth, but if you are to take anything away from this story, it is that the old myth of changelings has become twisted in this regard. If you skip the rest of it, get bored, or forget about it, that's fine as long as you remember this fact. Trolls never have, nor ever will, care to kidnap human children, but they are sometimes the only ones who care enough to take them in.
