In a post apocalyptic, broken world, an engineer named Ceinwen lives alone in her shelter, trying to create a device to allow her to go outside at night - night is when the whales call, and anyone who hears them will become fatally sick. Succeeding in this task after years of effort, one night when she leaves her shelter, she meets a little girl who somehow can survive the whale calls. Is she perhaps immune? In a way. The answer is much simpler.

And all of a sudden, Ceinwen's life is dramatically changed.
