Description
A dark, rainy night. The town square is empty, lit only by a few dim streetlights. Kai and the woman he once loved stand facing each other in the shadow of an old building. The air is heavy with the scent of petrichor. Kai takes a deep breath, his eyes narrowed in concentration. "I love you," he says finally, his voice barely above a whisper. "I always have." There is a long pause before Zoe replies. "You don't know what love is." Kai's smile is thin and cruel. "Oh, I know exactly what love is. It's a weakness to be exploited. And you... you're weak." The woman flinches as if she's been slapped. "You're a monster." Kai steps closer, his eyes fixed on hers. "Maybe I am. But I still want you. More than anything." The woman takes a step back, trying to escape the heat of Kai's gaze. "I hate you." "And I love you." Kai's voice is soft, almost gentle, but there is a darkness in his eyes that she can't ignore. "And I'll do whatever it takes to have you."
