harivarasanam

lord ayyappa, or dharma shastha as he is widely known, is the son of mohini, the female incarnation of shrihari and our mahadev. the legend says , as lord vishnu took his mohini avtar, and completed his task of serving the amrithamto the devas, mahadev had a wish to see the alluring and enchanting form of mohini.
as shri hari took on the form of mohini, emmerged a baby boy from hari and hara.
hari and hara had no other way but to abanden the child in the forrests.
hari, in his female form of mohini, had meternal affection for the child and therefore, it is said, a jem was tied to his neck, therefore earning him the name of manikandan..
he was then brought up by the king of pandalam as per the instructions of shri hari.
so ayyappa is refered to as hariharatmaja.
and then came to a stay in sabrimala.
the ayyappa ashtakam harivarasanam is dedicated to the swami and it is played to make the lord sleep.
