It's an unseasonably cold May night when foster care runaway Frisk climbs Mt. Ebott, hoping to disappear just like everyone who's climbed the mountain before them. But what they find at the bottom of the pit they throw themself into isn't the easy ending they were hoping for. Thrown into a world of benevolent monsters and talking flowers, Frisk finds themself with an unprecedented new companion-a misanthropic disembodied voice that seems to want them dead. Chara thought they knew exactly how their story would end. They would sacrifice themself, give their SOUL to their brother, and after millenia of imprisonment, monsterkind would go free. But their plan didn't pan out how they wanted, and their only solace as their consciousness slipped away was that they wouldn't have to worry about it anymore. But here they are, awake again, and worse-they're stuck tagging along after a human who, irritatingly enough, keeps trying to be their friend. All they want is the ending they gave their life for a hundred years ago, but the stupid child whose head they're stuck in doesn't seem to have any plans to give up their SOUL any time soon. The two are, unfortunately, stuck together, for better or for worse. Their only chance at a happy ending is finding a way to work together, but that's a hard battle to win. But they're both human kids from unhappy homes with the same goal in mind. Perhaps they have more in common than they think.
