The plot of the book revolves around Kali Torres, a nineteen-year-old rebel girl who finds herself trapped in a difficult situation. Kali wants to escape the toxicity of her adoptive mother, who is an alcoholic and makes her life miserable. To do so, she asks her twenty-nine-year-old history teacher, Mr. Anderson who has many secrets, to let her live with him. There are many obstacles that the two have to overcome, including an age difference of almost ten years.
