If anything, she was one of the lucky ones. In Onimere, a city void of plant-life, she is in the Keeper's Trials, spending every waking hour of her being to become the next Keeper of the Palace. In Onimere, a Keeper is a woman who cares for flowers. A Keeper's sole responsibility is to keep plants alive and clean of rot. The Palace has the biggest garden in all of Onimere, and it is the one place where every apprentice Keeper wants to work. But unlike the other girls, Scamp doesn't have wealth to fall back on. Her life is to be the Keeper of the Palace, or nothing at all. She tries to live a normal life outside of this dread that is slowly sinking her. She found love; the one person who doesn't call her an insult, but the one word that is her life's-soul. Many don't approve of the relationship they have, but if she can secure her position in the Palace, then she will be considered worthy of him in everyone else's eye. In a city where there are no gods, and only flowers, not much can go wrong, right? Not much can go wrong for a young woman trying to set herself a successful future amongst people who don't believe she deserves to be there.
