Instead of winning the bet against Enzo, Damon loses. As such, he is the one that remains with Augustine. Decades later, Henrik Mikaelson is brought down there as the scientists try to use his powers to the greater good and Damon ends up forming a bond with the child.
Now, years later, the original's brothers are trying to use Stefan's girlfriend as a sacrifice and Damon gets trapped in the middle as he tries to keep his family and friends safe.
