"Love, (Y/n)? You don't mean that...?" His voice trails off and you see the gears in the mechanism of his mind turn as he realizes what you mean. His heart thumps harder in his chest, betraying his feigned ignorance. You keep your hand there and without thinking it through, you take his right hand and place it over your chest, where your heart pounds beneath. "What does this tell you?" "It don't mean nothin'." His voice is lower and only loud enough for you to hear. Is he saying this to lie to himself or to discourage you? Perhaps both. You hold his hand tightly as it remains over your heart. "Then why don't you take a gamble that it does?" --- You've been living out in the woods alone for some time. Relying on your knowledge of the wilderness and how to survive, you have rarely had interactions, or have had the need to, with people. Breaking off attachments long ago in order to live on the straight and narrow, the only companion that you have near is your horse and a wild fox that keeps itself at distance. Coming back home from a hunting trip, you are faced with a storm such has never been, which would still be nothing out of the ordinary. But a dim light can be seen from your cabin window, and the front door is ajar. Brandishing your knife, you ready yourself for your home invader, but you aren't prepared for how the encounter will change the course of your life forever.
