Dystopian novel set in post-apocalyptic Tokyo where gateways to terrible worlds cause socioeconomic disparities between the Upper City and the Lower City- those safely above the dangers of the ground level... and those in the underground tunnels of the old metro system. A tyrannical order is imposed on the sub-level residents; forcing them to subjugate the horrors beyond the rifts.
