Before Deadlock became Drift, he was a loyal Decepticon. However, he slowly began to see the cruelty and dishonor of the Decepticon cause and left for Earth with valuable stolen intel for the Autobots. But he soon realizes he's being hunted by the ruthless Tarn and the Decepticon Justice Division.
