IN WHICH the Princess of Gondor falls in love with her brothers' rival and heir to the throne, Aragorn. MÍRIEL WAS THE GOLDEN MAIDEN OF GONDOR. Daughter of the Steward Denethor, sister to Captains Boromir and Faramir, she was a beacon of home to her people amidst constant war and darkness. Known for her abundant generosity and uplifting spirit, Míriel was loved by all the people of Gondor and hailed as the fairest lady of the royal line. Having grown up with two elder brothers, she longed to follow them in all they did, including sword fighting. From a young age, Míriel trained with her brothers to handle a blade and aspired to be a warrior like them. When Mordor, the land of the enemy that borders Gondor, begins to grow in darkness, battles become more frequent, casualties grow larger, and Míriel waits restlessly at home for the return of the men. She inspires them with speeches and good works, but still aches to be in the forefront of the battle and to adventure beyond the walls of her city. When her father receives word of a meeting in Rivendell about the weapon of the enemy, an argument outbreaks on which sibling should make the journey. In a fit of rage, Denethor orders Míriel to go, and Boromir with her. She leaves her beloved brother, Faramir to embark on the exciting and dangerous journey with the Fellowship of the Ring. Tension grows between Boromir and Míriel as they differ on whether to use the One Ring, or destroy it. When Aragorn, Isildur's heir, joins them with the Fellowship, Boromir refuses to accept him as the next king of Gondor. Míriel begins to fall for the humble leader but her brother sees it as a betrayal to her people. Relationships are tested through many trials of the heart through the perilous journey, and before the end, characters are changed.
