Prologue

Tessa Mariano. Older twin to Jess Mariano by 17 minutes. These two hide their sibling love for each other with sarcastic comments and put-downs, but hey, that's just how siblings are, right? At least they would've done that in their teen years, if they grew up together.

On Jess and Tessa's 10th birthdays, the twins' mother, Liz Danes came home from her date with some nutjob of a boyfriend, saying how he gave her a great idea. Jess wasn't expecting to hear the words, "Your sister is going to be moving to Connecticut with my brother, and your uncle, Luke."

Nobody in any world outside of the Danes-Mariano family would ever be able to understand why on Earth Liz Danes would want to send her only daughter away, and separate her from her twin brother, but, hey!, that's just Liz Danes for you; famous for being the all-over-the-place wackjob that everyone in New York City knows her as. She'll never change... or will she?

The twins' father, and keeper of the Mariano surname, left them when the twins were extremely young and unable to fend for themselves, but with their nutjob of a mother barely looking out for them, they had no choice but to learn how to look out for one another. With their father's removal, Liz was left alone, once again, bearing the Danes surname, while her kids were Marianos.

Tessa and Jess keep in contact through phone calls as often as possible, but eventually it just got impossible, since they both have their own lives to live. Although, no matter what, they always called each other to celebrate their birthdays together, over the phone.

7 years later, when Jess Mariano is 17, and starting to run with the wrong crowds, Liz can think of nothing else to do, but to simply send him to live with his uncle, as well. But is it really that simple? We'll see...
