Ever since her parents dropped her off at her aunt and uncle's house ten years ago, Mei has called the quaint mountaintown of Kyona her home. But when the summer is about to come to an end, Mei's predictable routine at her family's corner store is disrupted by a mysterious stranger accused of theft. Her seemingly small decision to defend him soon proves to weave her destiny with that of the new, enigmatic student at her school. This young outsider has chosen Kyona as his refuge, yet the town remains wary of him. Against the backdrop of Kyona's landscape, Mei and her new classmate form an unlikely bond.
