While struggling to find a hot meal in a new town, Isaac Graham gets invited to join a table by a gaunt looking man. After a rousing game of cards starts up, Isaac comes to find that the men sitting next to him aren't men at all, but a group of demons and an animated skeleton named Cal. After a terrible bet, he finds himself on the wrong end of a demon's revolver. Taking a bullet to the heart, he dies, only to mysteriously come to life again shortly after. Isaac now finds himself thrust into a world of magic and miracles the likes of which he never could have imagined before.
