Prologue

Wei Ying has been compelled to abandon his family and home, carrying feelings of disgrace and shame. He harbors a secret as to why he must flee, one that must remain undiscovered. Far from China, the Lan family has extended an offer of refuge and employment, unaware he is using them. His hope is that they remain oblivious to his history and, should they learn of it, that they will not cast him aside.
