Imagine, you're 24, you where supposed to take the throne when you married because the king didn't have any children and your mother was his right hand witch.. but you were not interested in any of the suiters. So now you have to wait patiently until your father falls ill. Or fall inlove.. which your dad strictly forbade,which led to him not letting you out of the castle at all.
