Prologue

Earthborn Akuze survivor Renessa Shepard's life has been nothing but choice after choice, sacrifice after sacrifice. When she reaches the end of the Reaper War, she thinks she's finally put all of the world-shattering choices and sacrifices behind her -- only to find out just how wrong she is.
Now, faced with the opportunity to fix the mistakes of the past, what will she choice? What will she give up for that choice? Sometimes, the ultimate sacrifice isn't death, but life -- if she makes that choice, will she succeed? Will she make it out the other side intact and sane? Or will the universe have asked too much of Commander Shepard?
