Every day, Hazel endures hardship and pain inflicted on her by her adoptive parents. Somedays she contemplates suicide, but she's never able to do it because one person stands in her way. ****************************************************************************** As soon as I heard my mother's footsteps approaching my room, I hid my bible back in its rightful place. I quickly make up my bed, consisting of a sheet, a firm pillow, and a thin blanket. I stand up straight, at the same time making sure that my bible is out of her eyeshot. I heard the all too familiar beeps as she was putting in the code to unlock the door.
