Akaashi is a doctor who's specialty is Hanahaki, as well as a disease correspondent for the news. What the people do not know of is his own dealings with the disease when he was 17, cured by a surgery which tarnished his memories. Now in his late thirties, a patient stumbles into his care with a type of Hanahaki he's never seen. There is an unnerving draw to save this patient, a connection long forgotten.
