Cypher didn't understand why his Pre Algebra Teacher, Ms Dodds, turned into a monster. He didn't understand how his History Teacher, Mrs Baxter, had glasses one second then a dagger in her hand the next. After the Twins are taken to a camp they experience loss beyond what they've ever had experienced.
