JJ is an ex-Firefly.

She met Tommy before the Fireflies and joined him on his journey. After the Fireflies, Tommy and JJ moved to Jackson to hopefully live out a peaceful life at the end of the world.

That is until Tommy's older brother, Joel Miller, arrives in Jackson and eventually JJ and Joel learn to love each other, sometimes a little too hard.
