Princess Yekaterina Romanovna Vorontsova-Dashkova is a bookish princess intent on studying mathematics at the University of Moscow when the Tsarina dies. She returns to the Winter Castle to stay with the future Tsar and Tsar Consort: the Grand Duke Peter III, and the Grand Duchess Catherine II. Yekaterina quickly befriends the older Catherine and judges her to make a better ruler than her imbecile godfather. The Princess hatches a plan that will change the course of history: a plan to put Catherine the Great on the throne.
