Description
Aspiring journalist and true-crime addict Danica Gatlin followed the disturbing mysteries of Ambrose, her suburban Ohio town, with vigor, alongside her best friend Madeline throughout adjusting to her new foster home and separation from her brother, Lev. They document it all on their shared website, allowing the public to engage with the cold cases and possibly paranormal incidents, from seemingly abandoned stores to haunted motels to abductions. Until Madeline decides to follow a lead alone and never comes back, and Dani falls deeper into a pit of investigation- and grief. When Francesca, Dani's classmate- deemed a freak and rumored to be clairvoyant and have medium-like abilities even she struggles to understand- claims that Madeline is dead, having been murdered, mere minutes before Dani sees the announcement of confirmation that they found her body, Dani begins to see a new way to put the pieces of her town and her best friend's disappearance together, by means of communicating with the other side, and spirals into a unlikely friendship, dangerous investigation involving a religiously corrupted town, and type of anger and darkness that's more than anything she's known before.
