"Tell me," he whispered, his finger tracing the raised, burned flesh on my hand, "is this where your pain hides?" As I parted my lips, a wave of hesitation washed over me. The sensory overload, from the scents to the sights to the sounds, consumed my thoughts. With a gentle touch, he took hold of my hands and brought them to his lips, a smile widening on his face. The soft exhale of his breath danced over my charred skin, a moment of serenity in the midst of chaos in my mind. His piercing red gaze locked onto mine as he spoke, "My mom did this for my siblings...and me when we'd hurt ourselves." A brief pause followed, and in that moment I glimpsed a flicker of pain cross his expression. But just as quickly, he recovered with a gentle smile, "It didn't take the pain away but it always made me feel better." My heart broke at the sound of his words and tears streamed down my face. His hands released mine and he pulled me into his strong, muscular arms. A woodsy scent enveloped me, overpowering the stench of burned flesh, and I closed my eyes, resting my head against the warmth of his neck. "It may not make you forget, but perhaps it will alleviate the pain for the moment," he whispered, his soft fingers gently weaving through my hair in a soothing motion. Nagi Hayashi, a 16-year-old healer, spends her time aiding the unlucky while striving to avoid her greatest fears. But her fear doesn't stem from the demons terrorizing humanity at night, rather she dreads being apprehended by bandits, who are determined to bring her back to the flames and the field of blue spider lilies that she wishes to forget. However, she may have fate on her side as she now finds herself protected by a demon slayer, who will go to any lengths to shield her, and his band of slightly unhinged accomplices, including his demon sister who is impervious to sunlight.
